Please find attached Early Day Motion which has been tabled today on the
order paper of the House of Commons by John McDonnell MP. The other
names included are additional sponsoring MPs - further MPs will add
their names when the EDM is reprinted by the Tabling Office tomorrow. I
will also fax to McKenna as you suggest.

John also wished to pass on the following message:

"Your courageous and unprecedented action in the West Coast ports of the
USA on May 1st to stand up for peace is an example to workers around the
world. It is fantastic to know that the proud traditions of peace,
internationalism and solidarity within the Longshore Union of the USA
are as strong as ever.

Comrades, we are with you, side by side, in brother and sisterhood. In
total solidarity, we salute you. "The workers united will never be
defeated."

John McDonnell MP, Chair Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs & Chair
of the Labour Representation Committee

ILWU Action for Peace

This House commends the decision of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union to stop work for eight hours in all West Coast ports in the United States of America on May 1st to call for an end to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; recognises the proud history of the San Francisco Longshore union of internationalism and active opposition to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; is concerned that the US maritime companies are pursuing legal attempts to prevent the Longshore union’s right to demonstrate; and calls upon workers in the USA, Britain and around the world to join in solidarity with the ILWU in support of this courageous action in the struggle for peace.
