Please understand that nobody wants to be in Afghanistan and Iraq. I speak from personal experience. I have had both friends and relatives in Iraq. Not all came home safely. Some are still there.
I do not support your walkout on 5/1. This only makes a bad economical situation in the US worse. The very containers that you are not moving around the port contain all of the products necessary to keep other US citizens working. This includes union and non-union workers. You will not be working because you choose. These people will not be working because you chose not to work. Are you being paid for your walkout in any way? These people will lose a day's wages. With the current cost of fuel and the rising cost of everything else, could the average American worker earning $32,000 per year stand the loss and support your walkout?
Yes, the war needs to come to an end. However, if we leave these countries before we finish, it will accomplish two things
1. It will be a big slap in the face for all of our young men and women who are and have served as well as the families of those who have not come home.
2. It will be an open invitation to terrorist organizations around the globe for a repeat of 9/11. If the US is not willing to complete what they started, there is nothing to stop terrorists from killing thousands of innocent people again. Will you feel comfortable knowing that your members will be at constant risk of a silent attack? What devices will be in the containers you are moving? What will set off the device?
Write your Congressmen, Senators, and President to COMPLETE the task at hand, not just leave. Urge them to finish what has been started so our troops can come home where they belong. A walkout sends a message. I only wish it was the correct one. In general, I find it completely useless.
